FanFic

Ending the night with one more light-hearted fanfic I wrote about Jimmy. Someday, I hope you can all purchase the novel he inspired (and for whom the male main character is named). But in the mean time enjoy this one final one-shot and have a great night. I hope you all celebrated Jimmy today and will celebrate him for years to come.

P.S. I apologize for the lack of a read more. When I checked the post, the read more wouldn’t load the rest of the story =(. At least it’s late, right? Not that many people still up?

The bus was parked; the band had a day off. Their girlfriends were back home in California, the boys were in Florida. Jimmy had fielded many phone calls from his fiancé about the wedding, and now he was bored. He’d spent his entire morning talking about flowers and cake and guest lists. He stood up from where he’d been reading on the couch and started jumping up and down.

“What are you doing?” Matt asked, looking up from his computer.

“Jumping up and down.”

“Why?”

“I’m bored.”

“Well, we have plenty of things to do, you know. You could go for a walk, for instance.”

“It’s hot outside.”

“Wear shorts and something other than black for a change,” Matt suggested, as Jimmy continued to jump up and down.

“Don’t wanna.”

“Well, then at least go jump somewhere else,” Matt requested, returning to his computer screen.

Jimmy put his hands up in front of him like a rabbits and hopped to the back, making a chittering noise with his teeth stuck over his bottom lip. He hopped into the lounge, were Zach and Brian had just finished a video game. He hopped over to them and chittered.

“What are you supposed to be?” Brian asked, starting to laugh.

“A wabbit,” Jimmy said, chittering again. “A very bored wabbit.”

“We have plenty of options for fun.”

“No walking, it’s hot out,” he said, and chittered again. “Let’s go to an arcade.”

“We have video games here on the bus,” Zach pointed out.

Jimmy hopped over to him and chittered in his face. “But not the same ones,” he explained, cocking his head to the side a bit and chittering. “Better ones.”

“Are you going to hop there?” Brian asked, as Johnny came into the lounge.

Jimmy hopped over to Johnny and chittered at him. “Nope, we’ll take the van,” he said, hopping out to the front and over to Matt. “We’re going to an arcade. Are you coming?”

“I’ll pass, thanks,” Matt said, still working on the computer.

“What’s so important that you can’t come play Whack-A-Mole with me?” Jimmy asked, still hopping up and down and chittering.

“Let me think about that. Maybe the last time we took you to an arcade and we had to drag you out, kicking and screaming because you didn’t want to leave? You’re worse than a child in those places.”

“I’m offended,” he said, but it was easy to tell he was trying not to laugh at the memory. “Come on Shads! Have some fun for a change!”

“Fine,” he said, saving what he was working on and then shutting the computer off. “But when it’s time to leave, you’re leaving.”

“Yay!” Jimmy said, clapping his hands and hugging the singer, who just shook his head, starting to laugh. “Last one to the van’s a rotten egg!”

While Jimmy took off running, nearly missing the last step of the bus in his excitement, everyone else laughed and got their shoes on, Johnny grabbing a pair of sandals for the barefoot drummer, who was now returning to the bus.

“Hot pavement, hot pavement!” he said, hopping from foot to foot and grabbing his shoes from Johnny. “Okay, race ya!”

Brian got into the spirit and ran after Jimmy, who got the van first. Brian was right on his tail, laughing as the rest of the guys ran as well. As everyone clamored into the van, which the driver had started when he’d seen them coming, Matt was the last one in.

“Rotten egg! Rotten egg!” the others chanted, and Matt flipped them off.

“You had a head start!” he complained.

The driver tried to stifle laughter as he asked them where they wanted to go. When they said an arcade, he laughed, knowing of a couple, and taking them to the one he considered the better of the two. Dropping them off, he said he’d be back at 1800 to get them for supper.

Jimmy ran inside, then turned to face his band mates, resuming jumping up and down.

“Who’s going to be my partner?” he asked.

“I will!” Johnny said.

“Yay!” he responded, high fiving the bassist.

Brian and Matt paired up and Zach said he’d float. Jimmy seized him at once, and once they had tokens in hand, Jimmy dragged them over to a racecar game. The pair laughed as Jimmy settled into the low seat and his knees appeared under his chin. He smirked and waited for one of them to take the chair next to his.

“I play mean!” he told Zach, as the game started.

“I play meaner!” he retorted, trying to run Jimmy’s car off the road.

“I play meanest!” Jimmy said, succeeding in getting Zach off the road.

When the game ended, Jimmy grabbed his prize tickets, waving them at Zachy. “I win! I win!”

“I want a re-match!” Zach declared and put more tokens into the game.

He won this time, and laughed as Jimmy pouted. Johnny’s game had ended, so they hurried off to find other games. The all laughed at Brian and Matt trying a dancing game, then located another two-person game, this one looking like it required coordination. Jimmy hopped onto the mat first, followed by Johnny, who placed tokens into the game. It was a running and jumping game and Jimmy’s long legs seemed better suited as he won two games against Johnny. He jumped up and down, counting his tickets excitedly.

***

Matt and Brian moved over to the racing game, Matt having noted that it was nearing time to go. He couldn’t believe that the afternoon had passed so quickly. He did his best to keep Brian’s car off the road, but ended up losing three games straight. Sighing, he pointed to his watch, as Brian added to his handful of tickets and looked for the others.

Seeing them over at the Whack-A-Mole, he watched as the game ended and Jimmy collected more winning tickets. Seeing Matt, he stuck out his lower lip, but didn’t argue. He was getting hungry, after all.

“Time to go already?” he asked.

“Yep, let’s turn these in,” he said, holding up his tickets.

“I’m hungry,” Johnny said.

“You’re always hungry, Christ,” Brian said, punching his shoulder.

“Me? Try you!” he said, as they stood in line at the prize counter.

Soon enough, everyone had chosen their prizes and were headed for the van. The driver was right on time and he laughed as the guys piled into the back, Jimmy’s prize riding in front.

“Why did you decide to get a polar bear that’s as big as you?” Matt asked, as Jimmy finished securing the seat belt on it.

“Because I could,” he said, sitting in the back, next to Johnny.

Everyone laughed, as the driver asked where they wanted to eat. They decided on fast food, and Jimmy had a very specific request: Burger King. The driver had an idea why, but went with them anyway. They sat and ate and soon, Jimmy excused himself, everyone knowing where he was headed.

“He knows we have to grow up eventually, right?” Matt asked, watching him climb into the play structure, nearly squishing a small child.

“He knows that,” Zach said. “But does he care? Not really.”

“I’ll be right back,” Johnny said, discarding his tray. He entered the play area, putting his shoes in a cubby next to Jimmy’s and climbing onto the structure.

Matt shook his head, as Zach, Brian, and finally he made their way into the little room. They didn’t have much time to play, but they were having fun, as Jimmy found the ball pit, Matt nearly got stuck in one of the tubes, and they all, at the beckoning of the driver, slid down the slide, put their shoes on, apologized to the frightened children, and went back to the bus.

“That was fun!” Jimmy said, sitting his polar bear on the couch. A tiger from Brian, a monkey from Johnny, a leopard from Matt, and a panda bear from Zach soon joined it. Each was large, but the polar bear was the largest. “We should do that again!”

My niece LOVES the deathbat, esp. when it moves. I once told her it was called “Fluffy” and now she asks for “Fluffy” on occasion. And then peppers me with questions about “why is it called fluffy?” and “where does fluffy live?”
